Stephanie Bowers | Registered Manager

Hi, my name is Steph. I am the Registered Manager at Craven Nursing Home.

I have worked here for over 20 years, starting as a Care Assistant in 2002. I have been a Registered General Nurse now for over 15 years. I was Clinical Lead on nights for a year before being promoted to Deputy Manager in January 2020, and subsequently Home Manager in June 2023.

My passion has always been Palliative/End of Life Care, being able to deliver Person-Centred Care, in a respectful and dignified way to our residents and giving support to our relatives.

I enjoy delivering the very best care to our residents with kindness, dignity, and compassion. We have very experienced and caring members of staff at Craven, and I am proud to be part of this fantastic team!

Carla Prowse | Deputy Manager

I always knew I wanted to be a nurse when I was a child, and from a young age, my passion allowed me to make this a reality.

Growing up in the East London Borough Hackney, with strong family values and a proud caring Mum, I always had a great desire to help and care for my community.

I started my career working in a Stroke Unit in London, progressing to become a Sister in a Trauma and Elective Orthopaedic Ward in Manchester. Here I was promoted to Ward Manager where I led a close-knit and effective team. I was proud to have championed many new initiatives, ultimately leading to us achieving and maintaining a Gold standard Ward Accreditation for several years running.

My husband and I decided to leave the rat race of the big city and move to the countryside where we could bring up our three-year-old son on a farm in Lothersdale and pursue our hobbies of gardening, veg growing and walking.

I have a range of experience working initially in specialist mental health services, domiciliary care/supported living and specialist learning disability services before moving across to the aged care sector and palliative care. I have experience in Home Management, Senior Operations Management. and Quality and Compliance roles.

I am extremely passionate about good quality kind person led care and ensuring that we go the extra mile for people living in our care homes, never forgetting that the little things quite often are the big things.

I am also motivated to ensure that we have well supported and valued staff teams who have opportunity to develop and have a great working environment where wellbeing is a strong focus and staff feel listened to.

I have experience of dementia both from a personal and professional perspective so do have an understanding of the journey relatives also experience.
I am a qualified Dementia Care Mapper and have worked on Kings Fund Dementia projects. I also sit as a judge in the National Great British Care Awards.

In my spare time, I love spending time with my family and going on days out together or going for a cup of Early Grey and a piece of cake somewhere scenic. I can quite often be found in the Lake District, it has become my second home and my little sausage dog loves it too.

I moved into the role of Group Recruitment and Retention Manager in 2021, having previously worked within one of the Homes, Ghyll Royd Nursing Home, for 20 years. This experience means I really understand the workings of the Home, and what values we expect of our employees.

I love working with each of the Homes to make sure we swiftly recruit new, high quality members of the team, and work hard to ensure that we retain our long standing members of the team.

I joined the Spellman Care Team in 2022, having previously worked in Primary Care Marketing whilst at college.

At Spellman Care, I collaborate closely with our Activity Coordinators to organize, promote, host and showcase engaging activities and events. I also maintain effective communication with families through our weekly newsletter, our monthly residents paper 'The Spellman Spotlight', and on our social media channels. Additionally, I work closely with our Group Operations Manager and Recruitment and Retention Manager to support staff wellbeing initiatives.

When I'm not at work, I enjoy spending quality time with family, walking my dog, and exploring my creative side through filmmaking.
